Fool That I Am

Created by Michael 2 years ago

Fool that I am I always thought these days would never end.
Fool that I was I wasted time but so did you my friend.
Yet now is not the time for foolish reflection.
I will speak not of regret, of wishes for things now beyond us both but will find some faltering words of joy and thanks and wonder that we can have shared so much for so long.
Though it feels now as though the world can contain no more pain, I remember different times, still fresh and not far from reach.
Times when it seemed that life could hold no more laughter.
I remember stumbling on my path and feeling your steady arm on mine, helping me to stand again.
And I remember with joy the times I could help you too when life made you fall.
I remember the mad and ridiculous times and smile at each silly memory.
And I think of the times when your friendship gave me the strength to adventure, to reach further and touch more than I could have dared to without you.
I treasure the memories of seeing your friendship touch others; great giver, supporter, wise counsel, true brother.
Thank you.
So now the great play draws to its end and you, my dearest friend, have taken your bow. You take your deserved applause.
And I? I turn to the lights and see the expectant faces.
Foolish words and tumbling jesters make us laugh and smile.
In faded motley, this poor fool plays on a little while.
